DIETARY HABITS

In Netherlands, the dietary habits are different. There is not 3 meals like in France. People eat a consistent meal on the morning and don’t have lunch at the noon. There isn’t break for the lunch so they eat snacks during all the day (even when they are in course). At the evening, around 18:00 pm, people eat a second consistent meal. They don’t eat anything after.

So in the city center, the restaurants close earlier than in France or if they are open, there is nobody inside after 20:00 pm.

At the beginning it was difficult to don’t have lunch at noon, but now we are used to this way of life.

GASTRONOMY

Hi ! Today, I would like to talk about the gastronomy. First, the traditional product in Netherlands is the cheese. They use to eat cheese for each meal, breakfast included. An other speciality is the soup, they have a lot of recipes for example the snert. It ’s a soup made with pea and which can be add to meat or vegetables. They also eat a lot of fish, because the country is near to the sea and there are too main ports in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. To see the importance of the fish in the gastronomy, you just have to go to the market in the city center on saturday morning. There are a lot of fish sellers. The fish is cooked like in France, with vegetables. Finally, except for the snack like Frikandel, etc … the Ducth gastronomy looks like the French gastronomy. Ingredients are similar, only the way of cooking is a little bit different.

Of course, it’s traditional, so not all Dutch people follow these habits.

Concerning us, we try to follow Dutch habits but it’s not easy because we have our own kitchen and we cook like when we are in France.
